Headmaster Cecil 'Jack' Ford shared this photo during the 1950s of Miss Ethel Reckley (née Pedican) with artist Alton R. Lowe, inspiring portraits he later painted of both her and her husband, Isadore “Mr. Dore” Reckley. Her gracious smile was a familiar sight in the heart of New Plymouth, where they lived across from present day Blue Bee Bar.
