Volunteers
Mandy oversees the Museum’s daily operations, coordinating volunteers and group visits, restoring exhibits, and managing ongoing preservation and repair projects. Originally from Canada, Mandy became captivated by Green Turtle Cay’s rich maritime heritage after sailing into the island in the late 1970s. She later married a grandson of Captain Roland Roberts, one of Green Turtle Cay's renowned native captains, and she has called Green Turtle Cay home for more than 36 years.
After raising her family on the island, Mandy began volunteering with Museum founder Alton Lowe, assisting with exhibits, collections, and fundraising efforts. Following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm that struck in 2019, Mandy stepped forward to lead the restoration of the Museum’s historic building and damaged exhibits.
Today, she continues to guide that work, preserving and sharing the history of Green Turtle Cay for future generations while ensuring that the Museum remains a vibrant link to the island’s past.
Esther Bethel
Storyteller & Heritage Guide
Esther welcomes visitors to the Museum as a storyteller and heritage guide, sharing the rich history, traditions, and culture of Green Turtle Cay. With a deep passion for local history and a lifetime of personal connections to the island, she helps bring the stories of its people and past to life for guests of all ages.
Born and raised in Eleuthera, Esther is the eldest of twelve children. Her father, Percival Arthur Roberts, a native of Green Turtle Cay, introduced her to the island through childhood visits by mailboat and seaplane to see family. After marrying, Esther made Green Turtle Cay her home, where many of her siblings still reside today. Her deep family ties and lifelong connection to the community make her a valued keeper and storyteller of the island’s living heritage.
Through her conversations with visitors, Esther helps bring the island's past to life, sharing the stories, traditions, and experiences that have shaped generations.
Evan Lowe
Digital Archivist
Evan leads the Museum’s digital preservation efforts, carefully digitizing and organizing historical photographs and documents to help protect and share the island’s rich heritage for future generations. Born in Nassau and a proud father of seven, he is passionate about using technology to connect people with their roots and bring Green Turtle Cay’s history into the digital age.
Evan’s connection to Green Turtle Cay runs deep through his father, John Wesley Lowe, who was born on the island and descends from both Captain Gideon Lowe as well as the Loyalist Curry family line. The home where his father was born withstood both the devastating 1932 hurricane and Hurricane Dorian nearly nine decades later.
Evan is also the creator of Out Island Boy, a platform dedicated to preserving Bahamian family history and inspiring younger generations to explore their roots.
