Pirates Expelled, Commerce Restored

Old Bahamian flag donated to the museum featuring the Latin phrase, which was the official motto of the Crown Colony of the Bahamas under British rule. The badge depicted a full‑rigged sailing ship chasing two pirate ships on a blue sea, with a royal crown above and a ribbon below inscribed with the motto and the word “Bahamas” This imagery symbolized the suppression of piracy and the restoration of trade after British Governor Woodes Rogers took control in 1718, ending Nassau’s pirate republic.
