Jeanne Thompson is descended from one of the oldest Bahamian families, the Thompsons from Eleuthera. Second daughter of Ellison Thompson and Sybil Isaacs, Jeanne was educated in Nassau and Jamaica. She was first called to the English Bar in 1964, then to the Bahama Bar in 1965. Her courage to pursue legal studies earned her distinction of being the second woman to practice law in The Bahamas. As a member of the Social Democratic Party, Mrs. Thompson led the opposition in the Senate in 1980-81. Jeanne acts, directs plays and has worked several years on radio, television and the stage. An outspoken champion of human rights, Jeanne has written eloquently on social issues in the Nassau Guardian.
