Born and schooled at Cherokee Sound, Hartis Pinder is a descendant of one of the earliest families to arrive in The Bahamas. At fifteen he went to Nassau and in 1967 began his five year study as an articled law student. In 1971 he married Greta Ellen Albury and their two children, Glenda and Timothy, have enriched their lives. Hartis was called to the Bahamas Bar in 1972, and practices in Nassau. He is a local preacher in the Methodist Church where he also teaches Sunday School. At Ebenezer Methodist Church he chaired a committee responsible for the founding of Epworth Hall. Hartis also sits on the Board of Governors of Queen's College, Nassau. He plans to retire at Cherokee where his father was a boat builder, a highly respected occupation among the early settlers.
