The second phase of the Museum’s reconstruction is officially underway, and our gratitude runs deep for everyone who has donated. With the roof now repaired, we’ve moved on to replacing the porch posts—many of which were missing or severely damaged. These posts support the structure above, and their condition had left the entire building vulnerable.

Given the increasing frequency of Category 5 hurricanes, we upgraded the original 4x4 posts to sturdy 6x6s, trimmed with 2x4s and 6-inch railings. Once the new posts have had time to dry, their edges will be chamfered for a finished look.

This phase was completed by Andrew Palmer and Orlander Hanna of Triway Construction in Nassau—an enormous help at a time when local carpenters are in high demand across the island.
